Alternative Moore’s Law. Cynical Geeks’s Law

Tuesday 24th March, 2009

I recently tried to copy a few GB's around my hard drive, and it was taking a while. As I moaned and bitched about it, I realised that the volume of data we would regularly copy today vs years ago has dramatically changed. So, as they say with Moore's Law that processing speed doubles every 2 years, I have a new definition to add to the anals of IT History...

"Cynical Geek's Law" stipulates that the volume of data we deal with quadruples every 2 years, so Moore's law doesn't help us at all, and if you have time to stop and think about how long it takes to copy a gigabytes of data on your hard drive, and also be able to moan about it, it's too freakin long!

Thankyou Mr Nobel, Thankyou all...
